| St. Alexander Religious Education 2008 Thanksgiving “Family Dinner” Food Drive The Religious Education Program is asking all parishioners to participate in their Thanksgiving “Family Dinner” Food Drive. We are asking all to participate in a very small way to help feed less fortunate families an entire Thanksgiving Dinner. The families that we will provide dinners to are from St. Columbanus and St. Frances de Sales Parishes in Chicago. It’s simple to participate. Just contribute: $2.00 in cash and 2 cans or boxed food. The money will go towards Jewel Food Gift Cards which we will purchase. Each family will be able to purchase a turkey, fresh bread or pie. All of the food items will be distributed equally inside the family boxes. Please pick up the Thanksgiving Food Drive forms in the Parish Activity Room (SAVE OFFICE). Religious Education students will decorate and pack all the Family Dinner Boxes. All money and food should be dropped off at the Parish Office no later than November 18. | ST. ALEXANDER PARISH P.A.D.S. VOLUNTEERS Last week it was announced that St. Alexander Parish would become a partner with South Suburban P.A.D.S. (Public Action to Deliver Shelter) in the ongoing work of ministering to the homeless of southern Cook County. Parishioners were encouraged to consider sharing their time and talents once a month at a nearby shelter site. We are proud to announce that, as of now, over 70 men and women have responded and have volunteered to help. In case you missed the presentation, PADS is an ecumenical group of churches and synagogues that share their space and members one night a week from October through April. Each site is open one night a week and the homeless (guests) come to the various sites for a hot meal, a warm bed and a safe night off the streets. In order to make this happen thousands of volunteers are needed. Please consider working for PADS this winter. When you volunteer you are agreeing to work once a month for four hours. There are four shifts: 6:00 p.m. until 11:00 p.m., 10:45 p.m. until 3:00 a.m., 2:45 a.m. until 7:00 a.m., and 5:00 a.m. until 7:30 a.m. Last week we were able to fill most of the slots still needed but substitutes are always needed. If you are able to volunteer, please complete the form below and mail it to the address at the top of the form. Please specify when you would be available. Thank you for your consideration of this important ministry. A list of the PADS sites is available on the tables in the back of church. Click here for form |
