Our Lady of the New Millennium
As part of the 50th Anniversary of St. Alexander's Parish, the
statue of “Our Lady of the New Millennium” will join us on June 21.
All are invited to come and pray the Rosary after each Mass on
Sunday, June 21. The rosary will be led by the St. Alexander's
Catholic Women's Club. Special Commemorative Rosary
Bracelets will be available for purchase. All proceeds go to
charitable causes. The statue of Our Lady of the New Millennium,
commissioned by the late Carl Demma, was inspired by his
lifelong devotion to Our Blessed Mother. The stainless steel
statue stands 38 feet tall and weighs over 8,000 pounds.
Pope John Paul II blessed the statue during his visit to St. Louis
in January 1999. Ingeniously transported on a flatbed truck and
raised by custom hydraulics, Our Lady of the New Millennium has
since visited hundreds of parishes and religious communities in
the Archdiocese of Chicago.
“Our Lady of the Millennium” will be at St. Alexander Parish
through July 18.
